These terms govern your use of The Word app and related services. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

What The Word is

The Word helps you search the Bible (King James Version) by question and study passages with optional AI-generated study notes. Scripture search and reading are free. An optional subscription unlocks the AI study layer (historical context, key insight, original-language word study, cross-references).

What The Word is not

AI-generated study notes are produced by a machine and may contain errors or incomplete perspectives. They are an aid to personal study: always test what you read against Scripture itself. The app is not a substitute for pastoral counsel, professional advice (medical, legal, financial, or psychological), or the community of a church.

Your account

• You must provide a valid email address and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account.

Subscriptions and purchases

• Three paid options unlock the study tools: a monthly auto-renewing subscription, an annual auto-renewing subscription, and a one-time lifetime purchase. Current prices are always shown in the app before you buy.
• Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
• Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their store policies.
• The free tier (Scripture search, reading, saved passages, notes) does not require payment, ever.

Acceptable use

You agree not to: attempt to manipulate, exploit, or extract the underlying AI systems for purposes other than Bible study; access the service with automated tools or attempt to bypass rate limits or feature gates; resell or redistribute the service; or use the app in violation of any law.

Content and licenses

• Scripture text is the King James Version (public domain).
• Original-language data is drawn from STEPBible (Tyndale House, Cambridge), licensed CC BY 4.0, and the OpenScriptures Strong's dictionaries, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0.
• Your personal notes belong to you. They are stored on your device.
• The app's design, name, and software are the property of the developer.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available, but it is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. Features may change, and the service may be interrupted, updated, or discontinued. Rate limits apply to keep the service fast and affordable for everyone.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim.

Termination

You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including abuse of the service or attempts to circumvent its protections.

Apple App Store note

For purchases on iOS, Apple's standard End User License Agreement applies in addition to these terms where required.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, we will update the date above and note the change in the app or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
